good for the environment, even better for business

Easter Island - a parable for the world?

For hundreds of years, Easter Island has been a puzzle.  What do the large, carved stone heads represent? Who built them, how and why?

Today, scientists and archaeologists believe they have finally pieced together the history of the island known as Rapa Nui and unravelled the mystery of the stone heads.  It is a sad story, but one that we can hopefully learn from if we are to avoid making the same mistakes because in their quest to build more and more statues, the Rapa Nui people deforested the island and plundered all of its natural resources.  The eco-system crashed causing famine, civil war and a rapid decline in population.
